Karon is concentrated around three main areas. In the Karon Plaza area on the south end there a number of budget guesthouses, restaurants and bars. The side sois are worth exploring, particularly the one that leads to a small art community, where some budding Thai painters have built a complex of huts, pubs and art galleries in which they live and work. Nearby, on the beach road leading to Kata, is the newly opened football stadium, which hosts both local and international sporting events.

Karon Beach is swimmable too. It is only not swimmiable at certain times of the year. This is the same with most beaches in Phuket. Karon is definitely quiter than Patong, but the beauty is that you can travel to Patong by Tuk Tuk, only about 10 mins drive, but then you can escape back to Karon Beach where it is not so full on as it is in Patong.

The beach is a popular destination for tourists as it is generally quieter than neighbouring Patong Beach. It is especially popular with Scandinavian tourists, with many businesses catering especially to them

Activities

Karon Beach have several water activities like jet skies, parasailing, banana boat ride etc. he busy Patak East Rd leading back from the circle is a jumble of bars, restaurants, all kinds of shops and small hotels. Near the south end of the beach is the famous Dino Park Mini-Golf located and the south end is also a perfect spot for children snorkeling at high tide when lots of fish swim close to the beach in crystal clear water. <<back>>
